In India the early movies didn't released on Friday till 1950's. The movie, Neel Kamal released on 24th March, 1947, which was a Monday. Mughal-E-Azam was among the first movies to be released on 5th August 1960, a Friday. So we ended up adopting the British/American legacy after all, in the late 1950s.
Also it is consider as the Friday is the day of Goddess Laxmi , and releasing movie on that will bring money to the movie owners, and they will be blessed with wealth.....
